Through this professional development webinar series, Early Childhood Educators will develop evidence-based strategies to support the inclusion of children and families from multicultural backgrounds, including those from migrant, refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds.

SESSION 1

EYLF and cultural responsiveness

Learn about the principles of effective culturally inclusive practice in Early Years pedagogy.

Develop your skills as an early childhood educator to analyse and articulate how children’s identities, experiences and personal circumstances impact their learning and wellbeing.

SESSION 2

Cultural responsiveness in Action

Develop and implement strategies and resources to support cultural inclusivity, including parent engagement; children’s transition into a preschool setting and onto primary school; programming that reflects and values children’s cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

SESSION 3

Additional support needs in multicultural context

Analyse and articulate how children’s identities, experiences and personal circumstances may impact their learning and wellbeing, including aspects such as: 

  •  cultural backgrounds
  •  migration and settlement journeys
  •  trauma
  •  disability and developmental delays

Meet the Facilitators

GRACE LEOTTA

Grace Leotta is a training, organisational and community development consultant. She develops and facilitates training programs, conducts assessments, facilitates planning, change management, organisational/service and practice development, and community and stakeholder engagement processes, conducts reviews and evaluations, and provides individual and group management coaching. 

Grace has a background in senior management, community development, and family work primarily with families with children with a disability including those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. 

JOANNE ORLANDO

Dr Joanne Orlando (PhD) is a researcher, academic and one of Australia’s favourite and most trusted digital wellbeing experts. Through her ground-breaking research she provides specialist advice and solutions to today’s most pressing digital wellbeing issues for children and families.

 Joanne is a popular presenter on TV, with over 10 years presenting digital wellbeing segments on Sunrise, Morning Show, Today Show and The Project. Joanne is a university lecturer and has developed subjects that focus on examining childhood today, becoming an exemplary teacher, and contemporary and meaningful pedagogical approaches. 

JANA KOVTUN

Jana has been involved in the Education sector for 25 years, from Early Childhood up to Tertiary Education.

As the daughter of migrant parents herself, Jana learned English as her second language and realised the importance of respectful interactions with people from other cultural backgrounds. She has had experience working as Director of an Early Childhood Education and Care Setting, a primary school teacher, a university course advisor/designer and lecturer teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in Initial Teacher Education programs, and a business owner.
